Paper Electrophoretic Study of a Rat Submaxillary Gland Extract †
نویسنده
چکیده
A number of physico-chemical studies on the secretory products of salivary glands have been reported, but only a few scattered data appear available concerning constituents of the total salivary gland. In regard to electrophoresis, very few studies exist pertaining to any salivary gland protein components. Phase boundary electrophoresis studies on mucin extracts from animal salivary glands have been reported by Blix,1 McCrea,'0 and Caspary.' In this study a paper electrophoretic technique was used to study some soluble protein components of extracts from whole submaxillary glands of rats.

Submaxillary Gland Factors Alter Uterine Weight and Peroxidase Activity in Mice
To elucidate a functional significance of submaxillary gland, a simple in vivo biological assay for uterine growth inhibitory activity of submaxillary gland extract has been developed based on its inhibition of serum gonadotropin induced uterine growth of immature mice. Regression of weight gain after administration of serum gonadotropin was found sigmoidal against protein concentration of subm...
متن کاملThe Heterogeneity of Arginases in Rat Tissues By ANNEMARIE HERZFELD and SUZANNE
Arginase reactions in rat tissues were shown to be catalysed by three isoenzymes which can be separated by bidirectional electrophoresis on polyacrylamide gels. Anodic electrophoresis reveals a migrating band (isoenzyme I) present in all non-hepatic tissues except submaxillary gland and a non-migrating band found in all tissues. The latter is resolved by cathodic electrophoresis into isoenzyme ...
متن کاملDegradation of 125I-glucagon, -pancreatic polypeptide and -insulin by acid saline extract of rat submaxillary gland and their protection by proteinase inhibitors.
The acid saline extract (ASE) of rat submaxillary gland exerts a powerful degrading effect on 125I-glucagon. In order to study the degradation of other 125I-peptides by ASE and the effects of their inhibitors, 125I-pancreatic polypeptide (PP) and 125I-insulin were used together with 125I-glucagon. The degradation studies were done by the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) method or gel filtration. Besi...
متن کاملHeterologous Anti-Salivary Gland Antibodies
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the possibility of experimental induction of sialadenitis in rats by heterologous anti-salivary gland antibodies. Two fractiens (Fractions I and II) were separated from rat submaxillary gland by SephadexG 200 gel-filtration, and then rabbits were immunized with each fraction. Although cross-reactivitv of anti-Frl antiscrum obtained from the ra...
متن کاملStudies on the physiological chemistry of the salivary glands. XXXVIII. Proteolytic activity of human saliva.
Recently it was reported that submaxillary gland homogenate of rat degraded I131-labeled Parotin, growth hormone, and casein with remarkable rapidity as compared with kidney, liver, spleen, pancreas, testis, muscle, and parotid gland homogenates. This rapid degradation of the labeled proteins by rat submaxillary homogenate was found to be proteolytic in nature, by quantitative paperchromatograp...
